Storynite price, free trial and limits: is it worth it?

Storynite costs $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year in the US App Store, after a 7-day free trial that includes 7 stories. There's one plan, Premium, and it includes everything: 30 illustrated stories a month, up to 5 child profiles, siblings in one story, 23 languages, and PDF and ePub export. It runs on iPhone and iPad only. If you read a story most nights, the yearly plan works out to about 22 cents a night.

Disclosure: this is our own app. We've included the limits and the reasons you might pick something else.

How the free trial works

  • You can make your very first story while setting up, before you choose a plan.
  • The 7-day trial starts when you begin an eligible Premium subscription through Apple, and includes 7 stories.
  • If you don't cancel, it becomes Premium at the price you chose, and your first paid month starts with a full 30 stories.
  • You won't be charged during the trial. Cancel at least 24 hours before it ends in your iPhone's Settings, under your Apple ID and Subscriptions.

The limits

  • 30 stories per billing month. That's one a night with a few spare. The count refreshes on the same day each month that your subscription renews.
  • 5 stories in any 24 hours. A fair-use limit so a month can't be used up in one sitting.
  • Failed stories don't count. If a story fails to generate, it's refunded to your allowance automatically.
  • Stories can't be edited or regenerated. If you want a different version, make a new story; it'll be a fresh adventure.
  • Re-reading and exporting are unlimited. Only creating a new story uses your allowance.

What happens if you cancel

Your access continues to the end of the period you've paid for. After that the account is deactivated, and your stories and child profiles are kept for 6 months in case you come back; subscribe again and everything is restored. After 6 months the data is permanently deleted. To keep stories forever, export them as PDF or ePub before you cancel. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Is Storynite worth it?

Probably yes if you read at bedtime most nights, your child loves hearing about themselves, you have two or more children who'd share a story, or you read in a language other than English and struggle to find books. The day-based story is the part no other app we've checked does: it's the reason children recognise their story.

Probably not if:

  • You're on Android. Storynite is iPhone and iPad only; see our comparison for options.
  • You want stories narrated by the app or kept screen-free. Storynite is made for a parent to read aloud. An audio app or printed books suit you better.
  • You only want a story now and then. ChatGPT or Gemini, with a good prompt, may be enough.
  • You'd rather not use AI illustrations. Every Storynite picture is AI-generated.

Storynite is new, with one App Store rating as of October 2026, so there aren't many independent reviews yet. The free trial is the best way to judge it.
